Together Once

from Now What? by Tilia Americana

/

lyrics

We were together once before,
you and I.

Fundamental threads entangled
In the Ever before time.

The universe took form
Matter, time, and physics born,
And with them space to separate us.
Nothing unraveling into all creation.
But underneath it all,
some theory kept us bound as one.

We drifted long apart
Tempered in the fires of a thousand stars.
Then drawn together through the heavens vast,
Added our gravity to Earth’s at last,
Cast on and off in evolution’s
endless circle dance.

Now I caress your skin,
Feel the heat of our coupled spins,
And know the soul that dwells within
your dust.

Oh I’d forever hold you near,
But it’s not for us to linger here.

A fleeting moment and our stuff grows restless,
Obeys the call of entropy relentless,
We hold no power over laws
that lent us this time.

But,

I will not fear that end
I know we will meet again
No space or time exists
that can keep us apart

And when Infinity
Circles round for you and me
Folds back down to singularity...

We’ll be together once again,
you and I.
